Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic Testing in Phoenix, AZ

Many health issues don't show obvious symptoms until they've progressed, which is why diagnostic testing plays such an important role in your pet's care.

At Rose Veterinary, our in-house lab lets us run many tests quickly, right when your pet needs them. To learn more or schedule testing, call us today at (602) 341-5214.

Understanding Diagnostic Testing

Diagnostic testing gives Dr. McCartney a clearer picture of what's happening inside your pet's body, especially when symptoms aren't obvious from a physical exam alone. At Rose Veterinary in Phoenix, AZ, we use blood work, urine testing, fecal testing, and a range of other diagnostics to help identify infections, organ dysfunction, parasites, and other underlying health concerns.

Because many diseases progress silently, testing done at a routine wellness visit or during the early stages of illness can make a significant difference in your pet's outcome.

What to Expect During Diagnostic Testing

Most diagnostic testing is quick, minimally invasive, and can often be performed the same day as your pet's appointment. Depending on what we're screening for, your visit may include:

  • Blood Tests, Including Complete Blood Counts and Chemistries
  • Urine Tests
  • Fecal Examinations for Hookworms, Whipworms, Tapeworms, and Roundworms
  • Virus Tests (Parvovirus, Feline Leukemia Virus, and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
  • Heartworm Disease Testing
  • Skin Scrapes, Skin Cytology, Ear Cytology, and Mass Cytology
  • Blood Gases, Pancreatitis Testing, and Bacterial or Fungal Cultures
  • Comprehensive Thyroid Panels, Tick Panels, and Vaccine Titers
  • Valley Fever (Coccidioidomycosis) Antibody Titer Testing

Valley Fever Testing & Management for Arizona Dogs

We offer Valley Fever antibody titer testing to check for exposure, along with additional bloodwork or imaging when needed to determine how far the infection has progressed. If your dog tests positive, our team will put together a treatment and long-term management plan — typically a course of antifungal medication that can run anywhere from six months to a year or more, with regular monitoring along the way. Most dogs start feeling better within the first couple of weeks of treatment, even though full recovery takes patience. If your dog is showing any of these symptoms, or you'd simply like peace of mind, we're happy to talk through testing options.

Our in-house laboratory allows us to process most results quickly, so we can begin treatment sooner when your pet needs it most.

Why Diagnostic Testing Is Important

Many conditions, from kidney disease to parasites to hormonal imbalances, produce few visible symptoms until they've progressed. Diagnostic testing allows us to catch these issues early, monitor chronic conditions over time, and confirm a diagnosis before starting treatment, so your pet gets the right care as quickly as possible.
